Bandelier National Monument 2018

Last night we enjoyed a delicious meal at The Compound on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. The James Beard awarded Chef knows exactly how to make an outstanding meal and experience. This is one of our favorites in Santa Fe and have been going for years. As always a memorable evening. We walked to downtown to pick-up our hotel shuttle past many stores closed on a Sunday evening. The plan is to go to Santa Fe in the daytime on Tuesday hoping to visit a few more of our favorites. After spoiling ourselves with breakfast on our outdoor terrace we head to Bandelier National Monument. Today being a Monday is a perfect day to avoid crowds. We read that you can only go in to the park now by shuttle. However, if you get in to the park before 9 AM, you can drive yourself. So that is exactly what we did at 8 AM.The last time we were here the section where the Anclove House is was closed due to a major flood which occurred after a year of a major fire. Stacks of tree debris is still evident from the flood and clean-up. Everything in that section was closed. 5 years later – it is open again but there is still Fire Danger so we cannot go as far as we would like on some of the hikes. This is an amazing place to see the Ancient Pueblo people’s cliff dwellings. There are also several places where you can climb ladders to see the inside. A fun place to visit. Because we arrive early, very few people are around making it almost spiritual. Quiet, cliff dwellings, red rocks, birds and another beautiful blue New Mexico sky. Peace.
