Brooklyn – May 16

Rain, rain go away…..well, not so fast. Apparently what was hanging around in the Gulf of Mexico is working its way north. We are now expecting rain for the next 5 days.

Fortunately with the storm last night we weren’t delayed from attending the theatre event at HERE near Spring St. An amazing and unique show! Puppetry in water with live piano music being played during the performance. I did find a YouTube – https://youtu.be/NxQBe2hUNwo

Wow! No photography done by me except this photo of the curtain. LOL

This morning we had breakfast at “Swallow.” Good steel cut oatmeal with fresh fruit. Then we come back to the hotel with the rain starting. Grab our umbrellas and take the subway to 14th Street and walk to the Whitney Museum. This museum never disappoints.

Always changing and innovative. One of the special exhibits is Grant Wood: American Gothic and Other Fables. You would know the art especially this particular piece.

Several pieces caught our eye especially when you find out that he does a study in pencil of an art piece first and then does it again with oil paints.

Zoe Leonard: Survey is another exhibit of this artists work, first large-scale museum exhibition seen in the US. Photography and sculptures are her medium. An example of a sculpture is of post cards of Niagara Falls displayed on a wall in a pattern representative the location of how you would view the falls.

Also lots of suitcases in a row – another sculpture.

There is also an exhibit of Where We Are: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection 1900-1960. This is where we find a couple of our favorites – Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keefe. We even locate one of the Hopper pieces of art that Steve has a print in his office.

An art piece painted all black causes people to stop and ponder.

One last exhibit – An Incomplete History of Protest. A lot to see and we decide we are beginning to overload so we leave for lunch

Lunch at “Bubby’s” – good food with a southern slant. Good B.L.A.T. (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Turkey) sandwich. No problem finding food in NYC.

Tonight we are having dinner with Mike and Lesley at LaVara in Cobble Hill. We’ve never been even though we’ve walked by it many times on the way to their house. Looking forward to good conversation over a good meal.
