Richmond, VA – 5 December 2025

A quick trip to visit a friend in Richmond, Virginia – a tradition for the past several years. In the past we went to Williamsburg. This year, our plans will take us around Richmond in cold and wintery weather! My flight left at 6:30 AM and arrived in a snowy Richmond.

A 30 minute UBER ride on the road was an easy trip – all the schools, government and county businesses were closed because of the snow – a whopping 2 inches LOL. It looks very pretty. During our afternoon walk outside there already was some “snirt” – snowy dirt on the road.

The day was relaxing in front of the fireplace, walking outside, eating a light lunch and then heading to a famous, historic restaurant for dinner at The Half-way House. This place has existed since 1760 with a lot of history, revolutionary war and civil war. Worth a read – https://www.thehwh.com/history

Typical of buildings from this era, the kitchen is in a separate building in the back. Amazingly, the restaurant is still keeping the kitchen outside and running food back and forth.

Inside we are seated on the lower level which is stone walls, with fireplaces heating the room. Old wooden stairs lead to the upstairs larger group area. It gives you an idea why having the kitchen out the back is smart. The restaurant is quite cozy, very simplistically decorated. Candles on the table, flashlight needed to read the menu. My photos actually make it look brighter than it was.

The food was delicious; and we did take a quick peek upstairs before leaving where the private party was underway. Such a wonderful place to have a lovely dinner in the middle of history.

The snow has stopped but the temperature is still quite chilly for this Floridian!
