Montreal – Final Day – 13 July 2025

The weather has been mostly sunny, hot and humid during this Montreal visit. Now, Sunday in the morning a passing rain shower as well as right now while I’m sitting at the airport waiting for my departing flight.

Luckily, the rain broke this morning so I could walk over to explore the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as my last tourist experience.

The museum consists of four buildings connected by an underground concourse. The first photo is the Desmarais Pavilion where you enter the museum and can buy your tickets. I spent most of time in this building. This was built in 1991 museum structure. The other building in my photos is the Bourgie Pavilion built in 1894 originally as a church. It was converted into museum space in 2011. I had enough time to visit exhibits in this building too which is Quebec and Canadian artists. The bottom building is the Hornstein Pavilion built in 1912. I did not make it to this building.

I spent an 1-1/2 hours which is more than usual for me but there was so much to see and two buildings to cover. Never even entered the other two pavilions because I needed to return to the hotel to check out.

If you do not like art, skip the pictures below!

This sculpture amused me. It entitled “Tumbling Woman.”

One piece of art in an exhibit by Marie-Claire Blais included the sounds of water. Is it a boat?

This next piece of art was fun. Created by Charles Sandison, entitled “The Blackbird.” Black and white computer generated imagery playing for 6 minutes. No the video below is not 6 minutes!

Displayed outside the museum buildings just next to the Bourgie Pavilion are sculptures. Excellent way to utilize the property!

Walking back to the hotel, I wandered one last time down Crescent Street looking up at Leonard Cohen – maybe he is preparing to wave good-bye to me?!

Au revoir, Montreal! 🇨🇦!
