Usually once we are done with a trip, I don’t write anymore blog posts until the next trip. This time, some commentary on traveling during the summer tourist season AND hurricane season motivated me to do a short blog. We left town not thinking there would be any storms. Well, Tropical Storm Debby is traveling up the coast of Florida.
So trying to leave on Allegiant Air from Asheville, NC was an incredible mess. Every flight on Allegiant was delayed for hours. The Asheville airport only has 7 gates and all were standing room only. We were lucky to snag a table in the only restaurant/bar place to wait out our flight. We cancelled our ticket on Allegiant to fly Delta to Atlanta which would give us more chances to get back to Florida. Guess what – delayed from Atlanta to Orlando.

We are sitting in the Delta Sky Club Lounge. It is packed – almost every seat is taken. We have seen everything here. A woman with a newborn baby walking around while it was crying. An Amish dressed woman with a small child came in alone. Is she a Delta Sky Club member? Mostly people trying to block out everything going on around them.
What are we doing – charging all of our devices and drinking water while people watching. We are also getting Sarasota County Emergency Alerts and the latest is a tornado has been spotted on the group along the interstate heading towards Lakewood Ranch.

Fingers are crossed our next flight leaves as expected. Then we will drive a rental car to Sarasota airport to pick up our car. We should be home by 3 AM if all goes according to this revised plan – known as B. We do have a plan C and are hoping to not invoke it – yet with tornado warnings….we may have to!
Our next trip in 10 days will require us to fly through Chicago O’Hare. That should be fun. LOL
Happy Summer Travels!
please let us know how things are going!
