Travel Day – 8 August 2023

The start of this trip was already and adventure! I am traveling with a group from The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch. There are 12 of us waiting at 5:00 AM for the Dolphin Transportation Van to pick us up and take us to the airport. Well, when no one shows up, I call the company who tells me the driver was in an auto accident so he won’t be able to drive the van. Wait, how do 12 people get to the airport? With some persuasion, the man on the phone calls me back to tell me they will have a van pick us up by 6:10 AM.

The driver does show up at 6:10 AM and we board the van and make it to the Tampa airport through check-in, tram to the airside, security and boarding just as they start boarding! Whew!

The rest of the flying trip was smooth. Arrive in Denver gate A9, transfer airplanes at gate A94, smooth flight and then board the shuttle at the Lewiston-Clarkston airport to the hotel. Thanks, Steve, for being the poser!

As we fly over the landscape below, we can see miles of wheat fields already harvested. I learn later that wheat is the primary crop in this area along with garbanzo beans. Who knew?

Lewiston, Idaho is on one side of the Snake River and Clarkston, Washington on the other. Named for you know who. Although a sign in the park behind our hotel says they never really camped here but rather up the river on the Northside of the Snake.

The Holiday Inn Hotel is very nice and the rooms comfortable and quiet. A short walk from the hotel is a coffee hut. These are quite popular out in this area of the country. Definitely a place for coffee in the morning.

The park behind the hotel on the Snake River incudes the Greenbelt Trail. You can walk a short distance to the Rooster’s Restaurant where we eat dinner. The trail goes 5 miles the other direction along the Snake. We are actual at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers, originally the area of the Nez Perce tribe. More history in this blog later.

After dinner at Rooster’s and back at the hotel we visit with our travel friends. Then off to bed early after a very long day of travel.
